Projects

The Selkirk Heritage Fair projects consist of:
  • Backboards that are available through the Board Office. They are used to display the information gathered about the essential question and the historical thinking that has taken place.Call the Board Office to pick up your student backboards.
  • A Research Log to show the process that the students used to research, cite sources and develop historical thinking. Two samples are provided below.
  • A Bibliography that can be attached to the backboard or included in the research log.
  • An Oral Presentation 2-3 minutes long to demonstrate student learning. Students may wish to be creative and dress in costume, speak in the first person, use props etc. Some students may need to use cue cards while others may be able to speak without prompts.
  • Artifacts that illustrate the information presented on the backboard and in the oral presentation.

In order to develop critical thinking in Social Studies teachers in Lord Selkirk School Division have been working with Historical Thinking Concepts. The following link connects to the Think Like a Historian wiki that presents the concepts and ideas for implementation.

One of the Historical Thinking concepts that fits well with the Heritage Fair projects is Historical Significance. It is demonstrated on the Three Panel Board Handout below.

Both of the research Log Templates below would need to be revised and edited to suit you and your class.

You will be notified if we need video discs for Viewing Activity Stations this year.
